Welcome to the Healing Arts Network Association Our community is participating in a movement toward a new system of healthcare called Integrative Medicine, a blending of traditional Western medicine and other complementary therapies. Where Western medicine has focused on illness, injury and disease, the emphasis of complimentary therapies is on wellness/prevention as well as a more gentle holistic approach to chronic illness. A unifying principle that bonds both of these approaches is recognition of the spiritual, emotional and physical factors that impact our health and well being. Socrates stated long ago that "the body cannot be cured without regard for the soul". This body-mind-spirit connection is the foundation of the ancient healing traditions of Chinese, Ayurvedic and Native American cultures. Our American health care system now recognizes that we can learn from these very old healing methods without compromising or threatening our scientific, technology-based system of medicine. Indeed, this sharing of knowledge in the service of healing strengthens us all. The Healing Arts Network Association (HANA) was established as a community of practitioners and supporters of Integrative Medicine. We are centered in Bloomington/ Normal Illinois and include many of the surrounding areas. As a community, we come together: To support one another in personal and professional growth To encourage people to take personal responsibility for their health To identify, inform and promote holistic approaches to health To build the holistic resources of our community To offer our services to support and uplift humanity Our two primary activities in support of these goals are education presentations and the publishing and distribution of the "Directory of Practitioners". The "Directory of Practitioners" is a paper pamphlet that lists practitioners of Integrative Medicine in the Bloomington/Normal Illinois area. Much of the information in "The Directory of Practitioners" can also be found at this web site. The Calendar of Activities lists both public and member focused presentations.
